Semiconductor Companies Eye Silicon for Solar
The Mercury News reports that more silicon is currently being used in the making of solar cells than in computer semiconductor chips. With this knowledge, some semiconductor companies in Silicon Valley are diversifying their production to include solar cells. Solar industry’s revenues are expected to grow 38 percent a year, according to analyst Paula Mints.
If the solar energy market continues its expansion, it’s estimated that the industry may have to build dozens of $300 million factories in the next five years to supply the demand.
