Solar Continues Growth
The Portsmouth Herald reports
that DuPont Co.’s announcement that it would build a $50 million solar-panel component factory is just one indicator of the growth of the solar-energy industry. Government incentive programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel-powered power plants have increased demand worldwide and help continue a five-year trend of 30 percent-plus annual growth in the solar industry.
Despite the demand for limited supplies of silicon, the long-term trend is toward lower prices. According to Solarbuzz LLC, the price of solar modules has declined from $27 per watt of peak production capacity in 1982 to the current price of $5.45.
