Australia’s Sun King Optimistic
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that although Australia has lost the lead in development in the solar energy industry, solar scientist Zhengrong Shi says it is not too late to catch up. Shi, who is worth an estimated $3 billion, is the wealthiest person in mainland China and was dubbed the Sun King after building Suntech Power Holdings, a successful solar cell manufacturing company near Shanghai in 2001.
While scheduled to address the annual conference of the Australian and New Zealand Solar Energy Society in Canberra, Shi said Australia has the world’s best solar technology - and sunshine, which, along with its healthy supply of non-renewable resources, puts the country in a good postiion the regain the lead.
