Solar Cells Improved With Photon Fusion
Technology News Daily reports that a process to converts low-energy longwave photons into higher-energy shortwave photons has been developed by researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz and the Sony Materials Science Laboratory in Stuttgart. By combining light-active substances, the scientists have manipulated sunlight to combine the energy in photons with particular wavelengths.
The process - by enabling the use of longwave energy - could create a new generation of higher efficiency solar cells.
