SunPower Boosts Output
ZDNet News reports that SunPower, which makes solar cells and panels, has boosted the size and efficiency of its second-generation, higher-power solar panels, which are expected to be in mass production next year. SunPower reported increased efficiency of their silicon cells from 20% to 22%.
The 5-foot by 3.5-foot panels will contain 96 individual cells, compared to 72 within the current product, resulting in a 43 percent increase in power.
