Discovery center gets LEED gold
The Springfield Business Journal reports the Discovery Center in Springfield has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification for it’s recent addition and renovations. According to Marketing Director Charlotte McCoy the science center’s new building is the first in southwest Missouri to receive LEED Gold certification. The renovation and addition, which was completed last year and cost $6 million, took steps from the beginning to be as environmentally responsible as possible. The new building collects rainwater, uses large windows and photovoltaic solar panels to light and heat the inside and was constructed with environmentally friendly materials.
