EU steps up to renewable energy
France 24 reports The European Union will step up cooperation on energy efficiency and renewable energies. According to Ministers attending an international environment conference in Berlin, it is in Europe’s interest to secure the future to invest in renewable energies. By 2013 the 27-member bloc will provide $15.2 million through the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument for cooperation in sectors including energy. Member states of the EU will be required to make renewable energies account for at least 20 percent of the EU’s total energy consumption by 2020.
