Sri Lanka to Implement New Energy Conservation Authority
The Sri Lanka Daily News reports the government will be changing the existing Energy Conservation Fund into an official Authority to regulate energy efficiency and conservation programmes. The New “sustainable Energy Authority” will, once established, implement a five-year energy conservation programme island-wide and will set up energy consumption benchmarking systems targeting commercial buildings. The proposed Authority will expedite power project approvals, helping to alleviate the current more than two year wait. The Authority will also provide free consultancy services and concessionary fiances for commercial organisations.
