New Solar Water-Heater Test Rig
Engineering News reports the Central Energy Fund has commissioned the first thermal test rig to measure the thermal efficiency of solar water heaters. The test rig, which recieved about R2.8 million in funding, was imported from Stuttgart, Germany, and is based at the South African Bureau of Standards in Pretoria. The test rig mesaures how long the heater takes to raise the temperature of the water, its insulation properties, how long the water remains heated and the durability of the solar heater. The test rig is available to any solar water-heater manufacturer with a department subsidised fee.
