New power station in Spain

Written on May 22, 2007

BBC News reports a new solar thermal power plant in southern Spain. A 40 story tower, featuring 600 large mirrors reflects sun rays to a single location, turning water into steam and then blasting it into turbines to generate power. The power station generates 11 megawatts of electricity without any greenhouse gases. It is Europe’s first commercially operating power station using this technology.
