Alcatel-Lucent replaces sheet metal with Lexan
Engineering resource Thomasnet reports on the success of Alcatel-Lucent in replacing sheet metal with Lexan polycarbonate in its protective enclosures. The lexan offers better temperature range and structural stability then aluminum. The lexan also reduces the hidden environmental cost of producing aluminum and processing the raw metal. The material also offers an almost 80 percent weigh advantage.
