The Silicon Solar Cell Improves

Munir Nayfeh has developed a process that can harness more solar energy. “Integrating a high-quality film of silicon nanoparticles 1 nanometer in size directly onto silicon solar cells improves power performance by 60 percent in the ultraviolet range of the spectrum.” Says Nayfeh. Particles of 2.8 nanometers show an enhancement of about 67 percent in the UV range and 10 percent in the visible spectrum.
