Energy Conversion Has solar Contract

Forbes reports Energy Conversion Devices Inc. has agreed to supply efinity Management BVBA with solar devices over the next three years. The devices are to have a total annual generating capacity of 21.15 megawatts. Just one megawatt of electricity powers 778 households per year.

The Motley Fool reports on the fact that solar power only provides 0.04% of the worlds energy supply. The article also details PG&E’s intentions to buy an additional 1,000 megawatts of solar thermal power over the next five years, which will doubt its existing commitment to solar power. FPL Group is planning to expand its solar production, and will be spending $2.4 billion to build 300 MW of solar capacity in Florida.

Cape Town Traffic Lights Becoming More Energy Efficient

Business iafrica.com reports the city of Cape Town will replace the conventional light bulbs in its traffic lights with LEDs by 2015. LEDs use seven times less electricity than conventional light bulbs. Ordinary light bulbs need to be replaced every three months, LEDs however, last for a minimum of five years.

Trading Markets.com reports China Sunergy Co. Ltd. led solar gains earlier this month. Some investors had shares rising higher, while others too their profits following reports of potential solar expansion in Spain. Stocks in the Solar industry are up almost 50% on average.

JRJ.com reports Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market has joined the California Climate Action Registry. The Registry is California’s only official registry for greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects. Another commitment from Fresh & Easy in its efforts to reduce its impact on the environment is marked by participation in the registry. The company has committed to building LEED certified buildings, as well as recycling or reusing all shipping and display materials.

According to the article, researchers at the Fraunhofer institute for Laser Technology in Aachen have developed a non-contact soldering system.

Hall’s building largest private company rooftop solar system

Equity Groups reports Hall’s Warehouse Corporation has announced an agreement with DT Solar to build a 2 MW solar system. The system will supply power to the Hall’s facility in New Jersey. Halls is a family owned refrigerated and frozen food storage and distribution company. When completed, the solar project will be the largest private company rooftop solar electric system in the U.S.

Glass Fronts Generating Electricity

The Telegraph reports on the ability of Glass exteriors to generate power. Placing a thin sheet of photosensitive materials between two glass sheets can generate solar power. Sharp Business Systems plans to bring this technology to India. Sharp Business is a subsidiary of Sharp Corporation.
