An All-Solar U.S. possible

Written on October 15, 2007

ScientificAmerican.com reports on the parabolic mirrors in the Mojave desert. The mirrors concentrate solar energy to heat oil to 750 degrees Fahrenheit. The oil transfers the heat to water, which vaporizes into steam that turns turbines to produce electricity. Nine mirror fields, known as concentrating solar power plants, produce 350 megawatts of electricity yearly.
