Solar Cities Proposed
The Hindu reports Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency has proposed ’solar cities’ to meet Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s target of 45,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2020. TEDA will submit the proposal under the Eleventh Five Year Plan. TEDA Deputy General Manager S.M. Vijayakumar had this to say, “The project will be taken up across the country. In Tamil Nadu, creation of solar cities will be proposed in 20 districts, including Tiruchi, Coimbatore and Madurai. Each solar city will cost Rs. 50 lakh.”
