Austin Approves Zero-Energy Home Initiative
Austin Busines Journal reports the Austin City Council approved a Zero Energy Homes initiative aimed toward reaching zero energy capability in new single-family home construction by 2015. 6500 new homes built in Austin this year will have to meet higher electricity and energy efficiency standards under the new initiative. The new standards will make homes about 20% more energy efficient.
