Four Types of PV Cells Creating Less Pollution
Scientific American reports PV power could cut air pollution by 90% if it replaced traditional fossil fuels. There are four types of photovoltaic cells: multicrystalline silicon, monocrystalline silicon, ribbon silicon, and thin-film. All of these types show lower emmissions of greenhouse gases than fossil fuels in the creation of electricity. While it takes up to three years for a PV cell to pay back the energy used to create it, it still emits less pollution than a coal-fired plant.
