ExchangeMagazine.com reports that Markham is teaming up with Enbridge Gas Distribution and York University to provide homes with solar energy systems. The announcement was made earlier this month at the 2009 Smog Summit in Canada. The project is expected to decrease heating costs by nearly 2/3.

France24.com reports that scientists are in the process of creating a new type of solar panel. These panels will be able to exert more energy, will be more user-friendly, and less expensive. This comes on the heels of dwindling economies around the world and estimations that renewable energy will decrease by nearly 38% in 2009.

GreenProphet.com reports that 3G Solar has been turning their efforts to dye-sensitized technology in Africa. The type of solar cell has many advantages, including low cost, both production and wholesale value. It also does not use silicon, which makes it very environmentally friendly.

SolarIndustryMag.com reports that the Clean Energy Promotion Act was introduced earlier this month. The new legislation was brought to the forefront by Rep. Martin Heinrich and it aims to promote “green” projects on public lands.

PV-Tech.org reports that the first PV module shipment has arrived in the United States. Worldwide Energy and Manufacturing USA, Inc have spearheaded the effort along with their subsidiary, Shanghai Intech Electro-Mechanical Products Co. The modules were given the required UL certification.

WMUR-9 in New Hampshire reports that a solar project is being put together by the Public Service Co. of New Hampshire in Manchester. The array will be located on the rooftop of PSNH’s Energy Park structure and will be able to create 51,300 watts of energy.

RenewableEnergyWorld.com reports that the BEST Green Business Award has been given to Solar Craft. The company is located in Southern California and the honor is given out by North Bay Biz. The award had around 2,000 nominations.

ThaIndian.com reports that D.light Design and The Shell Foundation have come together to create inexpensive solar lamps in India. These lamps will be ten times brighter than regular kerosene lanterns and provide lighting for nearly 32 hours.

RedGreenandBlue.org reports that the New and Renewable Energy Ministry in India plans to make the county a leader in the solar industry by 2030. The plan consists of an investment totaling $100 billion over the next 20 years. When all is said and done they are expected to have nearly 20,000 megawatts of solar power.
