SustainableBusiness.com reports LDK Solar and GT Solar International have signed an agreement for the purchase of polysilicon CVD reactors to be used in the manufacturing of polysilicon for solar wafers in the China plant. The companies are confident that this agreement will be able to increase the manufacturing capacity to meet the rising demands of the solar industry.

TradingMarkets.com reports DuPont Photovoltaic Solar has launched in India to provide crystalline silicon and thin film modules for the solar industry. A photovoltaic lab is planned to be established by 2010 to provide further research. DuPont expects sales to exceed $1 billion within 5 years for products in the photovoltaic product line.

Renewable Energy World.com reports the Summer Olympics in Beijing boasted renewable energy sources, even if they had to hire people to scoop up the much from polluted waters and enforce alternate day driving. Suntech provided a solar system of 8 million kWh at the “Bird’s Nest,” while Canadian Solar provided photovoltaic technology for the streetlamps lighting up Olympic Boulevard. Also, the Olympic Village installed a solar energy hot water system to be used the 12,000 athletes and trainers.

Business Line reports West Bengal will receive their first large scale solar power plant thanks to Titan Energy Systems and Beck Energy. The first phase of the 2MW project is expected to be complete in December 2008.
