Times & Transcript reports NB Power is offering meters to residences looking to generate their own electricity through solar power & other sources.  Currently, 2,300 customers have shown interest, but it will take a while before the technology is accessible to the average consumer.  The second meter will provide consumers the knowledge of how much electricity they are generating vs. how much they are using.

CNW Group reports the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance scored Ontario with an “A” for 2007 to show the province’s committment to conservation energy plan.  Their effort includes a $14.4 million Ontario Solar Thermal Heating Incentive.

Alternative Energy reports across the globe 40% of companies have installed are are looking to install a renewable energy source.  The international study shows that companies are looking to solar power and other sources to reduce their rising energy costs and to address environmental issues.

Tax Incentive Approved for Prince George County

Triangle Business Journal reports Prince George’s County Council has approved a tax incentive for residents to install solar power or geothermal heating systems.  Those residents who use a hot water system will receive $1,500 and a heating system will qualify for $5,000.

Timminco Contracted for Solar Silicon

The Canadian Press reports Timminco Ltd has signed a contract to supply 1,150 tons of solar silicon.  This undisclosed customer will recieve 150 tons this year and 1,000 tons the next.

Canadian Solar Inc. Raises Revenue Prediction

Reuters reports China’s Canadian Solar Inc. has raised its 2008 revenue to over $100 million.  The demand for its e-Module products has increased their shares by more than 12%.  The company nows plans to increase their output to 230-260MW from 200-220MW.

Fox Business reports Opel International has signed an agreement with Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada to install their solar photovoltaic panels.  Installation is set to begin immediately.  Medicine Hat is considered an ideal location for solar power because it has the highest concentration of solar radiation in all of Canada.

$500 Million Contract Signed for High Quality Solar Cells

Red Orbit reports Canadian Solar Inc. has signed an agreement with long term partner, Neo Solar Power to provide high quality solar cells for five years.  This contract is valued above $500 million.

6N Siliocon Inc. Receives Funding

TechFinance.ca reports $1.5 million will be invested by the Ontario, Canada government to 6N Silicon Inc.  The funding comes from the Innovation Demonstration Fund.  6N purifies silicon into 99.9999% for use in solar panels.  This process will reduce the material cost and encourage more solar power installation in Ontario.
